Frequently asked questions
How much tax is deducted on FD interest in Sri Lanka?
Banks deduct Advance Income Tax (AIT) at 10% on interest, effective since 1 April 2025. If your total assessable income for the year is under Rs 1,800,000, you can give the bank a self-declaration so AIT is not deducted.
Monthly interest vs at maturity — which is better?
At-maturity deposits compound, so they yield slightly more over the term; monthly-interest deposits pay you a regular income instead. This tool shows both.
