NIC Number Decoder
Decode any Sri Lankan NIC number — birthday, age, gender and the day of the week you were born.
🔒 Runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is sent to our servers.
Works with both the old 10-character format (9 digits + V/X) and the new 12-digit format.
🔒 Decoded entirely in your browser — your NIC number is never sent anywhere.
Day-of-year uses the standard NIC convention (day 60 reserved for 29 February). Gender and date follow the encoding rules; always confirm against the physical card.
Frequently asked questions
How does a Sri Lankan NIC encode my birthday?
The first digits are your birth year, followed by a day-of-year number (1–366). For females, 500 is added to the day number. Old-format NICs use 2-digit years with 9 digits + V/X; the new 12-digit format uses a 4-digit year.
Is my NIC number sent anywhere when I use this tool?
No. The decoding happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript — the number never leaves your device.
